Not every scratch needs a repaint, and we won't sell you one that doesn't. Light scratches in the clear coat often buff out the same day. Deeper ones that reach the color or the metal need proper refinishing. We'll run a fingernail across it, tell you which kind you have, and give you a price for the right fix.
Scratch repair depends on how deep the scratch goes. Clear coat scratches, the shallow ones that catch your fingernail lightly or not at all, can usually be machine polished out completely. Scratches through the color coat need touch-up or panel refinishing. Scratches down to bare metal need to be filled, primed, and repainted before rust starts. We match the repair to the depth, and we color match the paint so the fix is invisible.
A scratch through the paint is an open door for rust, and in humid, salty South Florida air, bare metal doesn't stay clean for long. What starts as a thin line can bubble into a corrosion spot that requires far more bodywork later. Cosmetically, scratches are also the first thing a buyer or appraiser notices. Fixing them properly is cheap insurance for the panel and the car's value.
Bring the car in when you can feel the scratch with a fingernail, when you can see a different color at the bottom of it, or when a key or branch has left a line across multiple panels. Vandalism scratches are usually covered by comprehensive insurance, and we can help you with that claim. For light swirl marks and haze, ask about paint correction instead; it's often the better fix.
